There is a very special time when two people get to grow up together. A lot of people will grow up together but I’m talking about a special sort of growing up. When the two people involved are very different and one of them thinks they have already grown up.
I had a few thoughts and I wanted to just put them out there. Some of this was inspired by other things I’ve been reading, others have been just odd thoughts.
In this human vs shiki(vampire) anime; Shiki explores what it means to be human, sometimes through the eyes of monsters. By the end of this anime, one is hard pressed to identify which group is truly the monsters.
Over the past 10 or so years I have used a piece of paper to keep track of the most important insights I’ve had and lessons I’ve learned. I thought I’d share that piece of paper with you since it’s pretty full now. I don’t think I intended to keep this thing this long when I first started out.
I try to be the kind of friend I would want in my life. Sometimes I don’t do a very good job of that.
Sometimes I forget how to communicate. I get caught up in this internal desire I have for accuracy, and I forget that there are feelings involved. This is especially true when I am already stressed out. I recently experienced this, and I have been thinking about it a lot since.
I do not think that my position in the conversation was incorrect, but I do think that how I communicated failed to be considerate of the other person’s feelings.
I didn’t ask for enough perspective. I didn’t shut up long enough to get what perspective was offered.
I ended up resorting to “You” language instead of “Me” language. “You are wrong”, instead of, “I think/feel this other thing.”
I did not pay attention to my tone of voice. For those who don’t know me well, I can adopt a tone of voice that is extremely belittling. It is not something I do intentionally. I try to be aware of it. I try to stop using it when it happens. Unfortunately I have a long way to go yet.
I became frustrated and confrontational over something that needed consideration and understanding.
I failed to be the kind of friend I would want to have.
To my friend. At least I hope you are still my friend. I am truly sorry.

On March 3, 2011, over a dozen SWAT-attired law enforcement officials appeared at the home of a 48 year old woman who was then arrested, her home searched and her posessions seized.
What had she done? What crime necessitated over a dozen tactical combat attired law enforcement officials? Here’s the story as quoted from Change.org.
"EllenBeth, an activist for the separation of church and state, had, earlier this year, challenged Sheriff Judd, an outspoken evangelical Christian, over the illegal transfer of taxpayer property to local churches, which he had orchestrated in a politically motivated public relations stunt.
Additionally, she discovered, through her Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to Sheriff Judd, that Judd had illegally used his sheriff department’s credit card and other taxpayer resources for this purpose.
In retaliation over a dozen of Sheriff Judd’s deputies, in SWAT tactical gear, descended on EllenBeth’s home in March. She was arrested on felony charges, jailed, her home searched and personal items and documents seized. Why? Because EllenBeth, a retired attorney, had used the letters “Esq.” (an honorific used by both practicing and retired attorneys) after her name on those FOIA requests to the sheriff."
In what civilized society is it appropriate for a person in the position of power held by Sheriff Grady Judd to behave in such a malicious manner? The order of actions gives the impression that this is likely a retaliatory attack on a person pointing to the Good Sheriff’s misdeeds. The office of Sheriff, as is true of all police and public service positions, is to serve and protect. Grady Judd seems to only have an interest in selectively serving and protecting his power base, not the all citizens that are under his charge.
I had hoped further scrutiny would expose this to be a case blown out of proportion and I could dismiss it. Unfortunately, this hope was without foundation and soon disintegrated. The Good Sheriff’s bigoted biases only become more apparent as one digs deeper into his actions. The strongest evidence comes in the form of a group the Good Sheriff is involved with.
This group is the Christian Churches of Polk County. The Christian Churches of Polk County has put together a campaign under the name of Polk Under Prayer or PUP for short. The Good Sheriff has openly supported this campaign. But why is supporting PUP so damning? Other than the obvious church/state issue, here’s why…
A co-organizer of PUP, Tim Williams, in a conversation posted on Frank Smith Ministries website, between himself and Pastor Frank Smith, details PUP’s current actions and future intentions.
"A strip of anointed oil has been placed over all lanes of highway at the county line and a prayer has been given at each location asking God to bring them to have angels inspect every vehicle that travels into or out of this county and to bring under conviction to those who seek evil and we asked God to bring them to a state of submission and repentance.
If they will not submit to God’s way of living, then the prayer is to have them incarcerated or removed from the county."
I can only assume that the "they" in that last sentence refers to anyone in Polk County, lawful citizens or otherwise. This strikes me as brazenly stating that regardless of legal wrongdoing, anyone who does not adhere to this particular religious organization’s world view should be persecuted in the form of expulsion or incarceration.

Today I ended up laughing my ass off when I saw a frame freeze in someone’s video. It was almost one of those “Sex Face” shots. Later in that video there was some talking that totally went with the face.
So I decided I’d start taking frames from videos and captioning them with transcriptions from another part of the video. It has made for some amusement on my end. Maybe you will enjoy it too. Look for a few posts coming up related to this.
